The coastal bluffs in Isla Vista is dynamic in nature and in constant retreat. The current Isla Vista Bluff Policy was developed to protect the safety and welfare of the occupants in buildings located by the retreating coastal bluff. This policy provides guidance to property owners in managing structures that are built on or immediately adjacent to the top of the Isla Vista coastal bluff.
The Building Official recently engaged a geotechnical firm to evaluate the current conditions and to provide recommendations on updating the existing policy. The completed report is located here. The Building Official has evaluated the recommendations and the Isla Vista Bluff Policy has been revised based on some of those recommendations. Please see the updated policy below.
