Health Status Reports
Every two years, the Public Health Department creates and publishes a health status overview for the public. This is a collaborative effort across many programs and organizations within the County and the State. Morbidity, mortality and behavioral data is collected and presented to portray a complete picture of the health status within the Santa Barbara community.
2016 Community Health Assessment **NEW**
The Santa Barbara County Public Health Department initiated a process to assess the health of our community and to identify priorities for improving health. Information from the health assessment provides insights into local health problems, identifies resources to improve health outcomes, and informs policy decision making.
The report for 2014 centers around the 3-4-50 concept: three behaviors, which contribute to four chronic diseases, causing over 50% of all deaths in Santa Barbara County.
Using data from the 2001 California Health Interview Survey (CHIS) in which over 1,000 households in Santa Barbara County were phone-interviewed, a snapshot of the health of the county was compiled.
