  • Evacuation warnings are lifted in all zones as of 8:00 am today. The following road closures are still in effect:
    • ROAD CLOSURES: East Camino Cielo at Painted Cave Road to Gibraltar Road and W. Mountain Drive at Gibraltar Road.
  • The fire is holding at 50 acres, and is 50% contained.
  • Crews will work today to hold and improve line and mop up interior areas.

  • Evacuation warnings will remain in effect until 8:00 am Friday for: No evacuation center has been established at this time, however, Red Cross is on standby if needed.
  • ROAD CLOSURES: East Camino Cielo at Painted Cave Road to Gibraltar Road and W. Mountain Drive at Gibraltar Road.
  • The fire is a wind driven fire, ½ mile off of Camino Cielo, west of Montecito Peak. Active fire burning is approximately 3-5 miles from the most populated areas. The threat to fire spread remains until the winds subside.
  • ACRES: Estimated to be 50 acres as of 4:30 PM. Reduction in size due to improved intel from air resources and field observers.
  • CONTAINMENT: 10%
  • EQUIPMENT ENGAGED AT THE INCIDENT: 10 helicopters, 20 engines, 4 dozers, 5 water tenders, 8 hand crews and approximately 520 personnel. Earlier today, ten air tankers and a DC10 dropped over 85,000 gallons of fire retardant around the entire perimeter of the fire. 50 engines are staged at Earl Warren Showgrounds and four air tankers remain on standby at Santa Maria Airport.

  • The Santa Barbara County Public Health Department and the Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District today issued an Air Quality Watch for the Montecito Area of Santa Barbara County to be in effect as long as conditions warrant. Smoke and ash from the Gibraltar Fire could impact air quality. Levels of smoke and particles, and areas impacted will vary depending on winds and on the containment of the fire. If you see or smell smoke in the air where you are, be cautious and use common sense to protect you and your family's health.

  • All animals (large and small) will be evacuated to the Santa Barbara Humane Society at: 5399 Overpass Road in Santa Barbara. Please contact the Santa Barbara County Animal Services hotline at: (805) 681-4332. If help is needed to evacuate animals, please contact the Santa Barbara County Animal Services hotline and they will coordinate assistance in evacuation.

  • Classes have been cancelled today for Cold Springs School and Montecito Union School.
  • Animal services hotline is open: (805) 681-4332
  • Small and large animals are being evacuated to SB Humane Society at :5399 Overpass Rd in Santa Barbara. If help is needed to evacuate animals, please contact hotline and they will coordinate assistance in evacuation.

  • The fire is 25 acres and growing
  • Unified Command has been established between Santa Barbara County Fire, Los padres Fire, Montecito Fire and Santa Barbara Fire
  • Reports of a brush fire were reported in the area of Montecito Peak at 5:16 am. The fire is a wind driven fire, approximately 25 acres, 1/2 mile off of Camino Cielo, west of Montecito Peak. A Unified Command is being established with Montecito Fire, US forest service, Santa Barbara City Fire, and Santa Barbara County Fire
  • EVACUATION WARNING IN EFFECT FOR: • North of Hwy 192, East of Cold Springs, West of West of Buena Vista, South of East Camino Cielo. (Evacuation Zones 3, 4, and 5 )
  • The incident currently has the following equipment assigned: 1 helicopters, 10 engines, 2 dozers, 2 water tenders and 2 hand crews.
  • Agencies involved include: Montecito Fire District, Santa Barbara County Fire, United States Forest Service, Carpinteria/Summerland Fire, Santa Barbara City Fire, Cal FIRE, Vandenberg AFB, Santa Barbara County Sheriff Department, Santa Barbara City Police and CHP.
