FEMA Releases Preparedness-in-America Study

Today, September 5th, 2013, from 1pm to 4:30pm at our County EOC the Santa Barbara County Office of Emergency Management hosted the USGS and CalOES team in the rollout and presentation of their SAFRR (Science Application for Risk Reduction) tsunami scenario results.

September is National Preparedness Month (NPM). The County of Santa Barbara Office of Emergency Management and its cities have committed to participate in this year's National Preparedness to increase preparedness throughout the United States.

Beginning January 1, 2014, many new provisions of the Patient Protection & Affordable Care Act will be implemented. What will these new provisions really mean for us in Santa Barbara County? Residents and community partners are invited to a free forum that will address this question on Thursday, May 23, 2013 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at the Goleta Union School District.

Local officials will gather to formally celebrate a new park improvement at Walter Capps Park located at 6731 Del Playa in Isla Vista on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at 4:30PM. A new 390ft split rail wood fence was installed near the bluff top of the 1.2 acre park.

National Nurses Week honoring nurses for "Delivering Quality and Innovation in Patient Care", begins on May 6, 2013. Santa Barbara County Public Health Department's Registered Nurses will be honored at the May 7, 2013 Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisor's meeting.

On Wednesday May 8th, the Santa Barbara County Operational Area will hold its annual Fire Season Meeting Press Conference. This year's meeting will be held at the Santa Barbara County Office of Emergency Management, located at 4408 Cathedral Oaks Rd. in Santa Barbara at 1 pm.

At 8:38 am, the Santa Barbara County Fire Department (SBCFD) responded to a vehicle over-the-side, located on State Highway 154, north of San Marcos Road.

The Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District (District) announced that health-based air quality standards were exceeded on Friday at county monitoring stations, likely due to hot weather conditions.

As a way for the public to get to know local law enforcement better and ask questions in a casual atmosphere, the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office is holding its first ever "Coffee with a Cop" in Goleta. The gathering will be held this Thursday, May 9th from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Starbucks located at the Camino Real Marketplace. The public is invited to grab a cup of coffee and chat with one of several Sheriff's Deputies that serve their community.
