Santa Barbara County District Attorney Joyce E. Dudley announced today that charges have been filed against Santa Maria resident Amos Lee Andrews in connection with an arson at the Town Center Hotel, located at 215 N. Broadway in the City of Santa Maria.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office this year began holding "Coffee with a Cop" gatherings in the communities of Carpinteria and Goleta. Next Tuesday, October 15, the Sheriff's Office will have its first ever "Coffee with a Cop" event in Isla Vista at the Starbucks located at 888 Embarcadero Del Norte from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The gathering is a great opportunity for Isla Vista residents, many of whom are college students, to get to know Sheriff's Deputies that work in their neighborhoods and to meet the new Isla Vista Foot Patrol Lieutenant Rob Plastino.

District Attorney Joyce E. Dudley announced today that charges have been filed against Juan Carlos Diaz of Buellton, California, as a result of an investigation by the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department. A total of 15 misdemeanor counts have been filed

Santa Barbara County Environmental Health Services is developing a Local Agency Management Program (LAMP) that will regulate the installation, repair and maintenance of Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems (i.e. septic systems throughout the county). Environmental Health Services will be hosting a series of community meetings to introduce and discuss the LAMP process, to answer questions and to receive comments.

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is defined as the sudden death of an infant who is less than one year of age that is unexpected and cannot be explained after a thorough case investigation. October is designated as a time to raise awareness about SIDS.

Trout Plants begin at Cachuma Lake, starting Wednesday, November 6 and continuing through spring. There will be six plants, and each load will include at least 4000lbs of rainbows. Most of the plants will be triploid rainbow trout, which can reach trophy size.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office is releasing the name of the suspect from the officer involved shooting which occurred on Sunday night, October 6, in the 3200 block of Beach Club Road near Carpinteria. The suspect is 29 year old Jeremy Leon Bordegaray of Cayucos in San Luis Obispo County. Bordegaray remains in critical condition at a local hospital.

A Santa Barbara man is in custody after a high speed chase which ended in a crash and subsequent foot pursuit this afternoon, October 7, in downtown Santa Barbara. 28-year-old Evan Githens, who was driving a stolen white Chevrolet work truck from Ventura, was chased down and arrested by Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Deputies. He is charged with child endangerment, felony evasion, being in possession of a stolen vehicle, multiple vehicle code violations and a probation violation.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office is releasing more details regarding the officer involved shooting that occurred last night, October 6, in the 3200 block of Beach Club Drive near Carpinteria. At around 7:45 p.m., the Santa Barbara County Emergency Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call from a concerned neighbor who reported a possible trespasser at a residence where the homeowner was not present. Three Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the scene and located a white male in his twenties inside the residence. They received confirmation from the homeowner that no one was authorized to have access to the residence and that any intruder should be arrested.

October is Fire Prevention Month and the history of National Fire Prevention Week has its roots in the Great Chicago Fire, which occurred on October 9, 1871 and in two days destroyed half of the existing city and left 300 dead and 100,000 homeless.
