At approximately 2:30pm on 10/20/13, Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a report of an auto burglary that had just occurred within the city limits of Carpinteria. The city of Carpinteria and unincorporated areas of Summerland and Montecito have recently seen an increase in auto burglaries in which the suspects smash a window and remove items of value.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office has been awarded a new traffic safety grant for an anti-DUI program aimed at preventing deaths and injuries on Goleta roadways. Enforcement measures to combat impaired driving are coming as a result of a recent $63,500 grant awarded by the California Office of Traffic Safety to Goleta. The Sheriff's Office is dedicated to keeping the streets safe through both enforcement and education.

At around 10:15 a.m. this morning, Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Detectives with the Gang Enforcement Unit located a vehicle reported stolen from Santa Maria driving eastbound in the 1800 block of Stowell Road in Santa Maria. When Sheriff's Deputies attempted to pull the vehicle over, the driver sped off at a high rate of speed. The suspect crossed double yellow lines and ran several stop signs in an effort to avoid authorities. Due to public safety concerns, Sheriff's Deputies called off the pursuit but continued to search for the stolen vehicle and the driver.
