Available data includes rainfall records provided by a network of rainfall observers as well as a network of automated rainfall gages. Rainfall analysis is performed by the Hydrology Section to determine short and long depth durations and return periods. This information is used for many purposes including design requirements for culverts, flood channels, water detention structures, bridges, etc. In addition, the Hydrology Section maintains and operates the ALERT (Automated Local Evaluation in Real Time) storm monitoring system.
