The Mission Canyon Sewer District provides wastewater collection to the Mission Canyon area. The system consists of approximately 12 miles of pipeline and two lift stations. The District is regulated by the Regional Water Quality Control Board in San Luis Obispo. Wastewater is further collected, treated, and disposed of by the City of Santa Barbara at the El Estero wastewater treatment plant pursuant to Joint Powers Agreement No. 12,554 dated October 2, 1984. The user fee for fiscal year 2008-09 (July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009) is $602 per connection per year and is collected on the tax roll as a fixed charge. In addition, certain parcels within the District remaining on septic systems were conditioned to be monitored for septic system performance. A maintenance fee of $24.00 per septic system per year is collected on the tax roll as a fixed charge.
