The County owns and operates the Tajiguas Landfill, the Santa Ynez Valley Recycling and Transfer Station, the South Coast Recycling and Transfer Station, the New Cuyama Transfer Station, and the Ventucopa Transfer Station. The County also monitors all closed landfills currently or previously owned by the County including: Ballard Canyon/Chalk Hill Landfill, Foothill Landfill, Santa Maria Airport Landfill, Santa Ynez Airport Landfill, Lompoc Burn Dump, New Cuyama Landfill, Ventucopa Landfill, and Cathedral Oaks Landfill. Other landfills located within the County are operated by the municipalities in which they are located, and Vandenberg Air Force Base possesses its own landfill. Where Does My Trash Go? Since Santa Barbara County is divided by the Santa Ynez Mountains into two geographical areas, the North County and the South Coast, trash generated by residents of the County may end up at one of several waste management facilities. The trash may go directly to a nearby landfill or to a transfer station where the materials are temporarily stored until the waste can be hauled to a landfill. |
