There are three different types of collection systems for households in the unincorporated areas of the County: one for the South Coast (from the Ventura County-line to the Gaviota Pass), one for the Lompoc unincorporated area (from the Gaviota Pass north to the crest of Drum Canyon and Harris Grade roads), and one for the Santa Ynez and Santa Maria Valley unincorporated areas. A travelled roadway is defined as a private road, service road, or driveway on which six or more customers are located. Under each level of service, the residents determine the number of containers that will be used for organics (yard material, grass, leaves, etc.) collection. For example, if a resident chooses the Reduced Service level (three containers in addition to a recyclables container), the resident determines how many of those three containers will be used exclusively for organics. Typically a household will use at least one container for organics. Residents supply their own trash containers, but service providers furnish green colored organics containers based on the number requested by the customer. Both the organics and trash are collected once per week from a customers backyard. All customers receive curbside recycling collection every other week. Residents are provided with either a 35-gallon, a 64-gallon, or a 95-gallon wheeled container, based on the customers needs. Customers are no longer required to separate the recyclables, since the materials can be commingled in a single recycling container. Lompoc Unincorporated
