The Construction section supervises the building of public road and drainage facilities in the unincorporated area of Santa Barbara County. Improvements such as subdivision streets, roads and bridges may be privately or publicly funded.
Subdivison and other land development staff provide inspection of construction work done by private developer or contracts creating new roads and/or drainage facilities for subdivisions or projects required for Land Use Permits, Development Permits, and Road Acceptance Projects.

Materials and Testing Laboratory staff perform chemical, physical and performance testing on materials and conduct field investigations to provide data needed by engineers and construction inspector for planning, design, construction and maintenance of road and drainage improvements.
