JESUSITA FIRE HYDROMULCH INFORMATION PAGE

The County Portion of the Hydromulch Project is 100% Complete!

The County of Santa Barbara would like to thank the community for its indulgence in the completion of the Hydromulching. We recognize this project was disruptive at times and your patience is most appreciated.

Hydromulching is continuing on Las Padres National Forest land.  For more information please see the Forest Service website.

Hydro Jesusita Intro2

The County has completed an aerial hydromulch project treating approximately 1000 acres of non-federal land in the Jesusita Fire area.  Hydromulch is an all-organic mix of paper (certified 100% plastics free)/wood fiber, water and a binding substance. It helps hold the soil in place to minimize erosion, trap moisture and create an environment in which the native seeds and roots already present in the soil can sprout. An organic green dye in the hydromulch helps the pilots see where they have made their drops, but the color will fade to a light brown within a short period of time. The benefit derived from the hydromulch is greatest when the treated areas are kept free of foot and vehicular traffic for the first year to protect the hydromulch cover.  See the links below for more information, which will be updated through the project.  For questions, please call the County Flood Control District at 568-3440.
