Lifeguard Program
The Santa Barbara County Lifeguards are making a presence at the County Parks as the ones who can be counted on for help. We are constantly making an effort to better ourselves so that you will receive a higher level of care in your time of need. The success of our Lifeguard Program has been made possible through our various partnerships with other rescue agencies, non-profits in our community, and the enthusiasm of our lifeguards. Our mission is to provide you with a safe and relaxing day at our beaches and pools.
Our staff consists of 24 Lifeguards; 13 are EMT-1 and 11 have achieved their American Red Cross Advanced First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22) and CPR and AED First Responder certification for the Professional Rescuer. We guard four beaches and two pools with 14 lifeguards on duty each day from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Our beaches are staffed from 10:00am until 6:00pm every day.

The County Lifeguard program meets the requirement to be USLA certified for Open Water Lifeguarding and have recently joined the California Surf Lifesaving Association.
Community Support
The American Red Cross has made countless contributions to public safety for decades. A humanitarian organization, led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, provides relief to victims of disasters and helps people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. They have provided training and facilities for the Santa Barbara County Lifeguards to practice and master first aid skills, and they have made generous donations to our program. We proudly wear their logo on our sleeve as a token of appreciation for their efforts in helping us keep the public safe. Please visit the Red Cross’ local chapter website to learn more about how you too can help. http://www.sbredcross.org/
Funding
The Coastal Fund UC Santa Barbara Associated Students provide funds to preserve, protect, and enhance the terrestrial and marine habitats associated with the shoreline of the University of California, Santa Barbara through preservation, education, open access, research and restoration. Through their generous contributions to the Santa Barbara County Lifeguard program, we have been able to provide our services to the very busy Campus Point during the summer months while UCSB summer camps are in session. Students and local families alike enjoy this beautiful stretch of coast.
