Canine Corner
Santa Barbara County Parks offers many recreational and leisure opportunities for dogs and their owners. Several major parks feature fenced and partially fenced dog play areas, and other neighborhood open spaces offer off-leash privileges at certain hours of the day. View list of off-leash dog areas.
Pet Spas
In late 2008 Santa Barbara County Parks entered into a concession agreement with Wripples PetSpas to develop self service pet washing stations at two locations. These pet spas at Waller Park (since November 2008) and Arroyo Burro Beach (since March 2009) have been much appreciated amenities for dogs and their owners. They also generate $12,000 per year in concession revenue for Santa Barbara County. The Self-Serve Pet Spa gives the dog owner a cost-effective way to bathe their pets without disrupting their own residences. Especially after a sandy romp on the beach at Arroyo Burro, a stop at the coin-operated pet spa leaves your pet clean and fresh (and the seats of your car won’t be covered in sand).
Partnerships
Safe, clean, and welcoming canine play areas work best with effective partnerships between County Parks and dog owners, veterinarians, and canine organizations. Dog
owners have helped to make our canine play areas great places for dogs to play off leash with other dogs –- and great social centers for dog owners as well.

Sponsorships
San Roque Pet Hospital (David P. Dawson, DVM) has generously agreed to help underwrite the cost of BioBags at Arroyo Burro Beach County Park. Even at wholesale prices, the cost of each biodegradable bag is 6.3 cents each, so the $250 per month commitment from San Roque Pet Hospital is a big help in maintaining this canine amenity during tough economic times. San Roque Pet Hospital is located at 3034 State Street in Santa Barbara and can be contacted at 805-682-2647. Its website is www.sanroquepethospital.com.
