MEDICAL CLEARANCE

Candidates who receive a conditional job offer will be required to complete a physical examination.  Appointments will be scheduled by Parks’ HR Coordinator and will be on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. 

 

 

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

SEASON

The season runs from May 25, 2013 through September 29, 2013.

 

DESCRIPTION

Under supervision, performs varied lifesaving and accident prevention services on Santa Barbara County Parks swimming pools (Cachuma Lake Pools and the Joseph Centeno Aquatics Complex).  Responsible for assisting and rescuing swimmers and other facility users, assisting other Lifeguards in responding to emergencies, enforcing pool regulations and helping to maintain the pool area in a clean and safe condition.  This is a seasonal position.

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Lifeguard duties include standard public lifeguard services at designated pools and park areas; maintains pool safety and cleanliness by enforcing the County and/or State laws; applies appropriate rescue, lifesaving and first aid techniques; maintains lifeguard equipment; provides safety information to pool users; complies with all standard lifeguard operating procedures; maintain pool areas for the health and/or safety of the public.  Performs such other related duties as required or directed by supervisors.  Must read and be knowledgeable of the pool procedures manual.

 

EMPLOYMENT STANDRDS

Knowledge of: standard lifesaving techniques including first aid and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR); applicable County and State Codes and regulations; use and maintenance of lifeguard equipment.

Ability to: work effectively with co-workers and the public; respond to emergency situations in a rapid and effective manner; enforce applicable laws, rules and regulations in objective and even-handed manner; effectively use lifeguard equipment, including rescue buoys and intercom system.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

·         Possession of valid California Class C Driver’s License.

·         Possession of valid CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid and Lifeguard Certificate.

·         Emergency Medical Technician certification is preferred.

·         Prior lifeguard or related experience preferred, but not required.
