  • In coordination with the County Office of Arts and Culture, the City of Santa Barbara is pleased to announce "1925," a new public art/awareness/education installation in Jardin de las Granadas, located at 21 E. Anapamu Street across from the Santa Barbara Public Library. The four-piece sculptural installation, created by artists Kym Cochran and Jonathan Smith, represents the 1925 earthquake that destroyed much of downtown Santa Barbara.   Read the full press release.

  • For the 17th consecutive year, the County Budget Book has received the top award from Government Finance Officers Association of the U.S. and Canada. Last fiscal year, Santa Barbara County was one of 15 counties in California to receive the award. In accepting the honor, County Executive Officer Mona Miyasato recognized the Budget team and the Auditor-Controller's Office for their efforts in preparing the budget documents, as well as the Board of Supervisors, department directors and their staff for assisting in the budget process. As evidenced by the amount of analysis, thoughtful consideration and effort going into our ongoing budget rebalance effort, the County is committed to having a financially sound and efficient organization.  Read the full Press Release

  • The Santa  Barbara County Public Works Department has been honored twice with Public Project of the Year. Prior to this severe winter storm season, the Santa Barbara County Flood Control District, in partnership with Caltrans and Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR), completed capacity improvements to reduce flooding along Las Vegas and San Pedro creeks under Calle Real, State Route 101 and UPRR as part of the Las Vegas/San Pedro Creeks Capacity Improvement Project in Goleta and Santa Barbara. The Project increased capacity of the two creeks from a 10-year to a 25-year runoff event under Calle Real and State Route 101, and increased capacity to a 100-year runoff event under the UPRR.   Read the complete press release
