CIRGIS is a Regional GIS Collaborative covering the area of Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties. CIRGIS is a regional collaborative for the preparation, collection and sharing of spatial data. Its purpose is to facilitate the development and maintenance of an ongoing public-private partnership for sharing and expanding the use of standard spatial data to foster informed community decision making, innovative business development, environmental management and education in the Channel Islands region of California.
CIRGIS is also recognized by the California Geographic Information Association (CGIA), which is a non-profit, statewide association formed in 1994 to facilitate coordination, collaboration, and advocacy for California's Geographic Information System (GIS) community. CGIA promotes the creation and maintenance of the best practices in the governance and application of geographic information within the State of California that can become a model for the nation.
