Air Pollution Control District

The mission of the Air Pollution Control District is to help reduce air pollution from motor vehicles and other sources of air pollution. Their Innovative Technologies Group (ITG) can provide information, contacts, and in many cases, funding, for clean air technologies. Since 1988, more than 100 agencies, manufacturers, support organizations, and users have participated in ITG programs. By leveraging funding, more than $22 million in projects have been funded. The program has reduced more than 1500 tons of smog precursor emissions.

The APCD works with the County to investigate opportunities for purchasing alternative fuel vehicles. ITG also assists the County in researching options for low-emission boiler burners, generators, water pumps, and other equipment. You can find out more about ITG by visiting the Innovative Technologies section of the APCD web page at www.sbcapcd.org/.

The APCD is a Green Seal Environmental Partner; as such, they have pledged to adopt a "green" procurement policy and recycle. Green Seal's monthly newsletter is posted regularly for employees to read. To learn about Green Seal, visit their website at www.greenseal.org/.

The APCD is also a member of WasteWise, the US EPA's voluntary program to reduce solid waste. As a member of WasteWise, the APCD has committed to implementing an environmentally preferable purchasing program, conducting a waste audit of our offices operations, and spreading the word about WasteWise. For more information, see the WasteWise website at www.epa.gov/wastewise.
