Molino Restoration Project

What's New

  • Ongoing inspection of drainage structures and erosion control
  • Oak monitoring

Past Activities

Project Development

  • In 1997 Molino Energy Company received approval to begin project development, involving site preparation and sensitive species mitigation.
  • In March 1998 Molino installed temporary skid-mounted production equipment and erected a drilling rig at the site.
  • Extensive drilling was conducted on a single well until September 1998. In November 1998 Molino determined that the test well would not produce commercial quantities of gas as drilled and shut in the well and removed all above-ground surface equipment from the site.
  • Since that date, no other development activities have occurred at the site. The project is undergoing full abandonment.
  • A Demolition and Reclamation Permit was issued in spring of 2006 to perform the remaining maintenance and mitigation for impacts to Gaviota tarplant and native bunchgrass.
  • A 14 acre conservation easement was dedicated on the property to mitigate for Gaviota tarplant and 600 native bunchgrass plugs were planted at Arroyo Hondo Preserve to mitigate for native bunchgrass.

Molino Gas Project Change of Owner and Operator

  • In 1997 Harvest Oil and Gas acquired a 40% participation interest in the Molino Gas Project
  • In 2000 Harvest became the 100% working interest owner of the project.
  • In 2005, the landowner, Richard Woodall Inc., became the new owner and guarantor of the original project permit, and is responsible for all outstanding site maintenance and CEQA mitigation remaining from the project.
