Gangs

Gangs continue to be a major crime problem. In response, like so many other offices, the District Attorney created specialized prosecution units staffed by a specially trained deputy district attorney.

What is a criminal gang? It is a formal or informal ongoing organization, association, or group that has as one of its primary activities the committing of criminal acts.

Working closely with gang units and local law enforcement agencies, the unit's attorneys vertically prosecute all adult and juvenile gang offenses

Another goal of the Gang Unit is to serve gangs with S.T.E.P. Act notification. The Street Terrorism Enforcement and Prevention Act is an allegation of gang activity that, if found true at trial, increases prison time by up to three years.
