Welcome to the County
of Santa Barbara Commission for Women’s website!
The Commission for Women
seeks to promote equal status and well-being for women in
Santa Barbara County. Our goal is to share resources and information
among districts, to keep women's issues visible by actively
reaching out to agencies and non-profit organizations, to
be a visible presence and voice within our districts, and
to communicate to the Board of Supervisors about women's issues
in order to affect positive change in the lives of Santa Barbara
County residents.
Our general monthly
meetings are open to the public. Any group which would like
to make a presentation to the Commission should contact the
EEO office at 805-568-3410 to be added to the agenda. We encourage
groups which work with women and girls to use our website
as a centralized source of information. Submissions may be
made by email; awonderly@co.santa-barbara.ca.us
Our ccommission is
made up of energetic and committed women, who are active community
members from each of the five supervisorial districts. We
invite you to consider applying to your local supervisor to
serve as a commissioner.
This year we will focus
on the issues of foster and transitional care, and educational
issues surrounding science, technology, engineering and math
education among the under served populations of our county.
In addressing the issue of foster and transitional care, we
are working toward helping young women and children who find
themselves among the most vulnerable of our county. In education,
we will encourage the love of science and math based education
among younger students. We will continue to provide emergency
resource information and to recognize excellence in service
groups which assist women, especially those women with the
greatest needs. We will continue to work in conjunction with
the California Commission on the Status of Women, the Association
of California Commissions for Women and the National Association
of Commissions for Women.
Thank you for visiting
our web site!
