What is Accreditation?
Accreditation is a professional voluntary self-study process by which early childhood programs demonstrate that they meet national standards of excellence and quality. The process includes gathering information from families, teachers, administrators and observing the care and education provided to children. A detailed description of the process can be found at www.naeyc.org, www.nafcc.org or www.naaweb.org.
Why Become Accredited?
The key benefits of becoming accredited include:
- Improved staff morale and competency
- Being a part of self-evaluation system
- Feeling of professionalism
- Validation of program’s standards and approaches
- Helps programs market their programs to families

SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE FOR ACCREDITED PROGRAMS
Recognizing that the increase in fees associated with NAEYC Accreditation may create a financial challenge for some accredited programs, NAEYC's Governing Board and the F.B. Heron Foundation have allocated funds to subsidize the additional costs for programs serving low-income children.
Scholarships are now available to defray the increase in the Annual Report and Validation Visit fees. Scholarship applications and information are available online at: http://www.naeyc.org/accreditation/pdf/accreditation_scholarship_program.pdf.
