National surveys on employers' perceptions of the benefits of child care
programs report increased productivity, improved recruitment and retention,
and lower stress levels as motivations for child care assistance. Workers
are likely to be more productive and satisfied on the job when they are
employed by organizations that support their individual and family needs,
according to a new study entitled The 1997 National Study of the Changing
Workforce by the non-profit Families and Work Institute. Employer
child care assistance can include dependent care assistance plans, direct
subsidies, and vouchers, arranging for employee discounts at local child
care programs, and on-site child care services.
