Volunteer Opportunities
Below are volunteer opportunies related to the natural environment.
Arroyo Hondo Preserve; The Land Trust for Santa Barbara County

The Land Trust has regularly scheduled volunteer days at the Preserve for both trail and habitat restoration work.
 
Arroyo Hondo Preserve is seeking volunteer docents
Arroyo Hondo Preserve is having a docent training class beginning Monday, Sept. 12, 2005, from 1:30-4:30. There will be 8 sessions during the following weeks. If you or anyone you know might be interested please contact Jane Murray, 684-4405, volunteer@sblandtrust.org. We will be studying the natural and cultural history of the preserve in preparation for giving tours to schools and community groups. Each docent usually tours 1-2 times/month as their schedule permits.

Carpinteria Salt Marsh Park
The Carpinteria Salt Marsh Nature Park needs volunteers to maintain the native habitats and for docents to lead individuals, school and community groups on interpretive walks. Contact Andrea Adams-Morden at (805) 684-8077 for more information.

Environment Now, of Santa Monica, has an events calendar for the environmental community on its website. The calendar is free for any environmental non-profit group to advertise its fundraisers, annual meetings, volunteer opportunities and conferences.

Santa Barbara County Parks

The Santa Barbara County Parks Department offers ways for individuals and non-profit organizations to donate money or labor to preserve, protect and enhance county parks, open spaces, and ecological preserves and receive benefits for yourself or your organization.

Santa Cruz Island Native Plant Restoration Project

Volunteers are needed for long weekends of work on Santa Cruz Island to help pull out weedy trees and vines. Volunteers stay at either the UC Reserve or at Christy Ranch. While these are working weekends, some free time is provided. A small fee is requested to pay for dinners. Wetlands Recovery Project Community Calendar

The Community Calendar is an easy-to-use online menu, showing volunteer opportunities, by county, with organizations working to protect our region's wetlands, rivers, streams, marshes, and nearshore waters. The calendar lists events and other opportunities to become involved in waterway cleanups, habitat restoration events, watershed improvement education programs and volunteer monitoring.
