El Colegio Road Improvements
The El Colegio Road Improvements project is designed to create a landscaped boulevard as main entrance to Isla Vista and UCSB. The project will provide a signalized four-lane roadway with left turn lanes and raised landscape median from UCSB West Gate to the existing four-lane roadway that now ends near the intersection of El Colegio and Camino Corto. The project improves access and safety for bicyclist, pedestrians, transit and motorists.
Key Design Features
- New on-street bike lanes (7000 ft of new bike lanes)
- New sidewalk (3,500 ft of new sidewalk
- Three new MTD transit stops in heavily traveled corridor with no current stops
- Raised landscape median with consistent landscape theme (Oaks under planted with flowering shrubs and ground cover)
- New travel lane and turn pockets for motor vehicles
- Separated bike path to remain on north side; landscape along north side is part of San Clemente project
Environmental documentation for the project is complete.
Construction will occur in two phases. Phase 1 extends from Campus West Gate to approximately Camino Del Sur and includes work along Los Carneros Road. Phase 2 extends the project from Los Carneros Road to the existing four-lane section near Camino Corto.
